Get to Know Morrissa

Introduced to music at five years old, Morrissa honed her gifts as a classically trained pianist and vocalist, winning her first national songwriting competition at just seven years old, clearly confirming she was on the right path.

As she matured, her love for music and the arts continued to grow. She fondly recalls weekends filled with joyful car rides, rehearsing while traveling across the city to perform in musicals, choirs, stage plays, and vocal and piano recitals throughout her teenage years. Her passion led her to work diligently to become a trained actress, earning her first television credit shortly after completing her studies with some of Toronto’s top acting coaches.

Attending a national competition for acting and singing led Morrissa to the United States, where she released her debut EP album out of Nashville, TN. The hit single “What If” lit up the airwaves, all before her 25th birthday. This project opened doors for her to connect with renowned figures such as Peter Youngren and tour across North America, sharing stages with gospel greats like Karen Clark Sheard, Fred Hammond, JJ Hairston, and many others. Whether writing songs, playing piano, or singing, Morrissa believes that music is one of the most powerful ways to reach hearts around the world. She affirms, “Music transcends borders and languages, making it one of the most powerful tools to connect with people.”

In 2023, Morrissa released her sophomore EP Devotion, featuring the hit song “Psalm 16,” which inspired listeners across the globe. This album also led her to multiple guest co-hosting and TV appearances on 100 Huntley Street (YES TV), Legacy Makers (YES TV), The 700 Club Canada, The Perspective TV, and more. In 2024, she followed up with Ready, an EP that included the collaborative track “Ready to Receive.” The powerful anthem brought together Canadian singers from across the country, uniting their voices for one sound, all for the glory of God. Through this album, Morrissa launched her first radio tour with over 15 radio stations across Canada and the lower parts of the USA.

Her stage credits include High School Musical 2 and the We Will Rock You North American Tour (2019/2022), where she made her Madison Square Garden debut in 2019.

More recently, Morrissa is proud to be the voice of CBC News’ The National (heard nightly across Canada), “The Great Tangle” in Nickelodeon's Zokie of Planet Ruby, “Lydia Loops” in PBS Kids’ animated series Lyla in the Loop, and “Camille” in the animated series Skillsville, where she also sings the theme song. Stay tuned for more animation roles coming soon!

Morrissa earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies with the highest distinction and hopes to pursue a Master’s in the field. Her deep love for children inspired the creation of Youth Empowered to Stand, a community initiative in collaboration with her church, The Worship Center Ministries. This program aims to cultivate and develop a love for the arts among the next generation.

When asked about her “why,” Morrissa shares, “I sing to share the love of Jesus. I sing to give a voice to the voiceless and to remind people of God’s heart for them.” Her favorite saying is, “Perfection doesn’t live here - grace does.” She attributes all her success, and all that is to come, to the glory of God. With a heart for people everywhere and a powerful, evocative voice, this is only the beginning for Morrissa Nicole.
